How Do NVQs Work

Candidates have to prove that they are competent at their job and are asked to provide evidence in various ways:

  • Observation in the work place by the assessor
  • Witness statements and witness interviews from their line manager and colleagues
  • Professional discussion with the assessor
  • Written or oral questions
  • Work products

With these qualifications, it is vital that the candidate is given the real work opportunities to deliver improvements within the organisation so that visitors benefit from these changes.

After the initial discussion the candidate is then registered for the relevant NVQ which enables them to start generating the evidence of competent performance that is required.

The assessor will then visit the candidate in the workplace every four to six weeks to assess, support and guide the candidate.
