The V&A Training and Development Department has been awarded status as an accredited assessment centre for all Cultural Heritage National Vocational Qualifications. This includes the V&A as a provider and assessor of programmes developed by the Training Department, Technical Services, Conservation and Collections.

Specific qualifications include:

  • Community Arts Management Level 2 & 3
  • Live Events and Promotion Level 2 & 3
  • Technical Theatre: Custumes and Wardrobe Level 2 & 3
  • Technical Theatre: Rigging, Lighting and Sound Level 2 & 3
  • Creative and Cultural Practices Level 2 & 3
  • Music Business: Recording Industry Level 2 & 3
  • Cultural Heritage Venue Operations Level 2 & 3

This status reaffirms that V&A Training and Development sets the standard nationally in the development of junior curators, technical and other staff in the museum field. It also supports the Investors in People standards and Diversity objectives in creating opportunities and access for development and qualifications for all.

  • Line managers and experienced staff are trained as assessors as part of continuous professional development.
  • Those wishing to gain the AMA qualification may get exemptions reducing costs.
  • The V&A can provide NVQ's to external museum staff and provide external assessment.
  • NVQ programmes support regional partners with little or no training resource.
  • Future development of IT competencies and NVQ’s in progress

Opportunities to train as a V&A Assessor

If you are an experienced professional in any of the NVQ programmes listed above and would like to be trained as an assessor to support staff in gaining their Cultural Heritage awards, please contact the Training Department for further information. Assessor training will involve a half day briefing and working with a qualified Assessor to take a candidate through the qualification.
